Photography
in the Waterton Area
Everyone likes calm days as they offer incredible opportunities to take
pictures of remarkable reflections.
However, the calm day we have
in Waterton might have been yesterday and so we have to adapt to take
shots of nature at its roaring best. Photographic opportunities
abound in Waterton. You can take great shots of animals, birds,
plants and scenery all from the safety of your vehicle or you can take
to the trails for even more photographic opportunities. I would
suggest that you make sure you have film or memory chips and batteries
for your camera and keep it at the ready.
An excellent area for reflections is the water near the park
gate. This is called the Maskinonge and is a great area to look
for a variety of birds. A telephoto lens is of great value as you
will have difficulty getting very close to some of the subjects.
The main Waterton Lake offers reflective views occasionally, but
usually has too much wave action on it. Cameron Lake offers good
reflections as do most of the high lakes. If these bodies are
disturbed, wait a minute and they may clear up.
Most of the large mammals can be safely photographed from the safety
of your vehicle. Care in framing your shot could result in
a picture that looks as though it was taken miles from any human
habitation. Those of you using digital cameras can remove
evidence of human activity with a photo touch
up program like Photo
Shop.
